ATTENTION COLLECTORS!

1978 Porsche 928 - 1,482 original miles.  Rare non-sunroof version, automatic transmission and the 816th 928 built for the North American market.  The color is Lime Green Metallic (official Porsche color is Lint Green Metallic) with Cork Op-Art and Black interior.  This color combination is quite striking, sometimes pictures do not do it justice.  Very 1970's!

\Survivor in mint original condition right down to the tires (They are in remarkably good shape although I would not recommend driving on them)!  No evidence of any damage history or paint work (I have been through every square inch of this car!).  Complete documentation including original owners registration card, books/manuals, light bulb/fuse kit, first aid kit, window sticker and records (what few there are given the miles).  It even has the "1978 car of the year" sticker on the right rear quarter window.  The 1978 928 was named car of the year in Europe in 1978.  Runs super strong and is started and run regularly.  Fuel stabilizer is always kept in the tank.  The car is stored in my garage in a car capsule on my lift.  The battery is always removed and kept on a trickle charger.  Timing belt, water pump and all fluids changed regularly and up to date.

Please remember, this is a 31+ year old survivor with ALL of its original exterior paint, interior surfaces (floors under carpets have been refinished - see pics below), wheels/tires engine compartment (except for timing belt and H20 pump - it does have all its original belts/hoses).  While cosmetically it is near perfect there are always going to be a couple things on a car of this vintage that will not be as it would on a new car.  Perhaps you would call it patina?  In the interest of full disclosure I will make every effort to make any potential buyer aware of what I know to be the flaws (things that are less than perfect) with the car.   For example, the AC system is currently inoperable.   I decided not to repair it b/c the car is RARELY driven on the street (it is registered in NC) and just didn't see the need.  The temp control button needs to be reinstalled.  The fuel gauge is currently inoperable.  The OE gas tank (I still have it and it will go with the car) started to leak and the tank I replaced it with had a loose baffle at the bottom of the tank and I could not remove the old sending unit.  I have another used tank that does not leak and a new fuel sending unit that needs to be installed.  I bought a new set of stock Porsche 15" wheels, had them refinished and mounted new Pirelli's on them.  I also found two new unused Pirelli CN36 tires in Germany to go along with the original set as one of the original tires has a ply separating.  There are two imperfections on the front bumper cover and have been touched up.

The underside of the car, the wheel wells and the interior floors (underneath the carpets) have undergone a cosmetic restoration.  Thousands of dollars and many many hours were spent bringing these areas back to better than new condition (see pictures below) with a nut and bolt cosmetic restoration.

This is a unique opportunity for a Porsche collector looking to complete or add to a full line Porsche collection.  This is probably the lowest mileage 1978 928 (first year of the 928) in "as new"  condition (I don't see how one could get any nicer than this one!) available anywhere in the world.  Bar none!  It really is a VERY impressive car.  I am listing the car for sale b/c I have had my time with it and this car really belongs with a collector.  I am not a collector just a long time 928 enthusiast and have decided if I am going to have cars, I am going to drive them.  Because of this car's current state I believe it should not be driven since it is such a significant piece of Porsche 928 history.  My car is affectionately known as Kermit on some of the popular 928 internet forums.

Price:  SOLD!

My 1978 928 was featured in a book by Marc Cranswick with lots of color pictures; a copy of the book is included with the car.

The above picture was taken on 09/17/2006 at the Auto Fair at Lowe's Motor Speedway where the car won "best of show" out of ~80 Porsches.  The presentation is being made by H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler and Craig Jackson of Barrett-Jackson.
