Here is an update from Todd Johnson who looked at buying this car in June of 2006:

"Yes, that is my old GTS from about 6 or 7 years ago. And yes, that is the one I almost rebought again about a year ago.

The car is exactly as it should be. The colors are right and the options are right.

The difference a year makes is that NOW they actually have a title for it! It's obviously been bought by a dealer, so they managed to somehow get a title for it that the current owner at the time only had PHOTOCOPIES of old U.S. titles for! He had no paperwork, no records, no manuals, etc. Nothing!

The car has been detailed to the absolute best it can be. And dammit, those are the new Bridgestone tires I pre-purchased for that asshole who tried to sell me the car with photocopied titles a year ago!
The dealer had to of dyed the front seats. There's no question about that. The carpet needs total replacing as I'm sure they cleaned it the absolute best they could. The car rattled and vibrated when I went out to buy it a year ago. The current owner at the time had to bang on the drivers side headlight to get it to pop up. There was a huge dent in the front drivers side fender. It smelled of an oil leak and was smoking from underneath the car, most of the exterior lights were out and several idiot lights on the dash were constant, etc. Need I go on as to why I backed off.

It cost me nearly $2000 in hotel, flight and other expenses to fly out to Seattle to re-purchase my old car from a conman, but I was able to get $1500 of it back for fraud. I also found out after the fact, that it would have cost me quite a bit to bring that GTS back over to the States from Canada, even though it was originally a U.S. car.

It may look good in those photos, but I've owned that car before, saw it and almost made the mistake of buying it again 7 years later, and can tell you if the dealer said it's not perfect, it's probably far from it in reality................

Todd"

Please be advised, the dealer mentioned above is NOT the dealer currently selling the car.  Please read the description (highlighted in blue) below regarding the current (02/12/2007) condition of the car.  It sounds as though much time and effort has been put in to this car.

Vehicle Description 1993 PORSCHE 928 GTS You have been looking, searching everywhere for this low mileage, all original, never painted, one owner, all service records, dealer maintained, concourse winner pristine Porsche 928 GTS... Well, let me stop you right there. This is NOT the one. What we have here is a decent Guards Red 1993 Porsche 928 GTS which has covered 95,135 Miles. We have no maintenance records, no information regarding it's ownership history beyond the previous owner and no evidence that it has won a concourse in the recent past. Most panels have been re-painted, the quality of the paint work is far from perfect, but it looks good at a glance. There is a split on the lower portion of the front bumper, a crack on the paint on the drivers side front fender and the front spoiler is not in very good shape (see pictures). The leather seats have been professionally re-died, however the condition of the leather is not that great. The rear seats are in much better condition than the front ones. The linen gray carpet has some wear and stains, a deep cleaning might be in order. We have no records of timing belt or water pump replacement, so this is something that you would want to plan in near future. The timing belt Tensioner gasket seems to be seeping a bit. There are some curb marks on the wheels, the CD changer is not hooked up to the after market CD player. This is a US car that has been imported into Canada. It is fully registered in British Columbia. We own it and have a title in hand. If you are still reading, here is the good part: The car drives very well, it is fast and the motor sounds great. It handles very well - the original shock absorbers have been recently replaced with Bilsteins. The steering rack appears to have been replaced quite recently. There are no leaks from the oil pan gasket and the valve cover gaskets appear not to be leaking. The oil cooler does not leak. The transmission pan is dry and the transmission shifts as it is supposed to. The flappy works. The suspension is good, there is no play in the ball joints, tie rods or the upper control arms. The tires are over 80% and the brakes (pads and rotors) are good. The PSD works. All windows, sunroof, wipers, lights, power seats, etc. all work. We had the following work done: Oil and filter change Replaced the shifter cable Transmission service (pan gasket replaced as well) Flex plate tension was relieved (lees than 2 mm, NO play in the thrust bearing)) Timing belt tension checked (4.5 units) Recent and current AirCare (emissions) certificate. As you can see from the 51 photographs, this is not an ugly car. It may not be invited to Pebble Beach Concourse, but it is a good driver. Vehicle Description LEAST EXPENSIVE GTS IN THE COUNTRY 1993 Porsche 928 GTS: red/gray/black, 90,500 miles, automatic trans, CLEAN CARFAX Porsche's flagship 928 model was produced for 18 years and the 1993-1995 GTS model was the most powerful and refined model before Porsche ceased production in 1995. With 345hp and 369ft/lbs the 928 GTS could go from 0-60 in 5.3 sec and do the 1/4 mile in 13.8 sec even with an automatic trans. Even in todays world, the GTS numbers are still impressive. This particular car came with many factory options:(331)AM/FM cassette, (474)Bilstein sport shocks, (570)rear A/C, (586)driver lumbar support, (596)black spoiler, (650)sunroof, (692)remote CD, (935)seat cover draped leather"supple", (980)rear seat cover"supple", (XD4)crested center caps, (X22)rootwood shift handle. In 1993, the sticker price would have been @$85,000. Vehicle Condition This beautiful GTS comes "without" the protective side strips. This gives the car a much more smooth and clean look. Mechanically the car is excellent. 95 degrees outside with A/C on full, the car runs cool. There are no oil drips! The bottom of this engine is dry. Interior is in great shape: the dash and pod are perfect with absolutely no cracks. The interior rear 1/4 panels are straight-no warping. Electrically, most everything works: cruise control, rear hatch, A/C, power seats, interior lights, dash lights, power mirrors etc...The leather is very nice with minor scuffing on the drivers side bolster seam. The spare, compressor, jack and most of the tools are there(two cresents, screwdriver and the pliers are missing). Paint is beautiful with very few rock chips and scratches. The front has been resprayed, probably due to stones and debris from Chicago roads as well as mileage. I removed the inner wheel panels and inner door panels to have a look and there is absolutely no sign of repair. CARFAX is clean. This car was originally sold in Chicago at Lynch Porsche in 1993. According to the service manager, the saw the car from 1993-1999, but due to purging their computer system, he had no details, just the dates that they saw the car. The car then went to Indiana in 1999 and I have the records since then. At 90,200 miles, the O2 sensor and the power steering hose were replaced. At 74,600 miles the timing belt/water pump and related rollers and tensioner were replaced, brakes were rebuilt with new seals and pads, trans. fluid and filter flush. The car is ready to drive home. What is wrong with the car? Drivers side window has given up to the ghost. I have checked and there is power from the relay to the motor, so the problem is motor related. It may just need to be cleaned or the worst case scenario, it needs a new motor which is $180($90 used) from a 928 specific vendor. The passenger side door is missing the lock pop up button. The lock works with the key and the alarm works, but the button mechanism is missing. The factory CD changer is currently inoperable. It is not hooked up and the head unit is a newer Blaupunkt CD which probably cannot control the changer. On the passenger side center console, there are some small screw holes from a mobile phone install. they can be easily repaired at a vinyl repair place. Lastly, the original Porsche Cup rims are in need of a re-finish. They have scuffs and scratches. If I was to keep the car, personally I would upgrade to larger and wider 18" rims and tires. I did on my previous 928 and it looked much better. The rims are mounted with almost new(under 1500 miles) Bridgestone Potenza RE730 tires. Sell the rims/tires as track wheels or keep them for a winter/foul weather wheel. You will notice in the picture of the engine that the air intakes are silver. The original black padding was falling apart due to age/heat, so I recovered the mesh tubes with heat insulated padding. Terms of Sale I reserve the right to end the auction early due to interested individuals that I have already spoken with. However, when the car meets it's reserve, I will let the auction run its course. Even with the "buy it now" this is still the least expensive 928 in the country. I have owned three other 928s and I know these cars well. This is a very nice example with no stories. I have disclosed any issues with the car. I would encourage the winning bidder to drive it home regardless of distance. That is what this car was built to do, long distances at high speed. Bidders with "0" or "negative" feedback will need to contact me before bidding or I reserve the right to cancel their bid. I will need a $1000 deposit within 5 days of auction end and payment will need to be by bank check or preferably wire transfer(I will cover the fee).
