1984 Porsche 928S, Luxury GT Sports Car Vehicle Description This 1984 Porsche 928S is in nice shape and looking for a new home. Mossgreen metallic exterior, Black interior, Pirelli P7000 tires, custom exhaust, and maybe 911 ? seats. I bought this 928 about 3 ½ years ago after a fair amount of research and am so glad I did. Someday I will get another one when I have more free time to enjoy it. I'm convinced that the 928 is the best Grand touring supercar value in existence. It is a thrill to drive such a solid, high performance car. Parts are plentiful as are manuals and helpful advice. I'm including my service manual CD. 928 clubs are all over the country. I've put about $7000 into this car while I've owned it and have the receipts. That was not into the stereo either. You can do that. Engine $5000, Exhaust $1000, Paint and tires $1000. This car has not been a garage queen but it has been taken care of by me, a Porsche 928 enthusiast. I bought this particular car so I could drive it and enjoy without paranoia of parking lots or rainy days. It has certainly exceeded my expectations of fun driving and head turning. The Mossgreen color looks great on this car. A lot of my 928 friends have black, white or red 928s but this color looks like a serious performance, classy Grand touring car. The reserve price is way below book. Vehicle Condition Drivetrain Condition: About 4000 miles ago, I had the front end of the engine gone through by the local Porsche factory trained 928 guru/mechanic. I originally wanted to just replace the oil pan gasket and said, aw what the heck, might as well do it right since it's here. Compression was checked and all was fine. I does not smoke or burn oil. The timing belt was checked and looked fine, belt tensioner was replaced, new Porsche engine mounts installed, new oil pump seal, tranny serviced, new front brakes and yes it got a new oil pan gasket. The radiator was showing the common signs of leaking tranny fluid so a separate tranny cooler was installed. Even in the hottest weather this car has always been right on normal for temp. The power steering rack is in great shape. The A/C needs recharging but I don't use it up here North of Seattle. The original catalytic converter was in need of replacement and I found that I could have a complete custom 2 ½" exhaust system with a high flow cat for less than the OEM converter, so I couldn't resist. I have been very pleased with the work that Sean at Racecraft did. When idling, it has a pleasant rolling authoritative rumble and when getting on the freeway it sounds like a healthy V8 stretching it's legs. You can also cruise along for hours on long trips without your ears taking a pounding, just a nice purring. Ah just right. This 928 cruises as smooth as glass down the freeway so the I'm sure the wheels are true. I put a new set of Pirelli P7000 Supersports at the stock size of 225/50 on the 16" factory 7 slot wheels. I have been quite pleased by the smooth quite ride tenacious grip and precise handling. The tranny has had a slow leak from somewhere around the torque converter since I bought the car 3 1/2 years ago. It hasn't grown worse but I keep an eye on the fluid level just in case. As for fluids I change the engine's 9 quarts of oil and filter about every 4000 miles with SAE 30wt. I just changed the fuel filter at the tank. I put in a 16oz bottle of Techron every fifth tank or so. The K&N Air filter is in good shape and I clean and reoil it every 3rd motor oil change One final note is I had this car on the dyno after the new exhaust and was quite pleased with the results. Factory says 234HP/267ft-lbs and the dyno came in at 224/275. Exterior condition: Original color is Moss Green Metallic but repainted. Match is not exact as you can see the backs of the headlight covers (original) are slightly more yellow. Nobody has ever noticed that even if I mention it. The right front fender has some bondo on the lower front corner but is not noticeable until pointed out. I replaced the spoiler in the front a couple of years ago and it is still in new shape. I simply learned that you don't park the nose on the curb. There are 2 somewhat noticeable body dings. One by the drivers door handle and one in front of the passenger side mirror. The windshield has no rock nicks and looks new. The wheels are anodized light gold and have some streaks from a previous owner probably spraying wheel cleaner onto hot wheels and letting it bake in the sun. I always wanted to paint them silver but never got around to it. Interior condition: Very clean. You may notice in the photos that the dash is virtually free of cracks and that it even has the Porsche crest floor mats. I have not seen another 928 with the Porsche crest mats and understand that they are quite rare. I use a folding windshield reflector when parking outside at work and it seems to really help. The seats are all leather and the front seats are perhaps from a 911. Whatever they're from they are very comfortable and in good shape. The seat's side bolsters keep you snugly in place and makes driving more fun I think. I've driven other 928s and they just don't fit like a glove the way this one seems to. A three hour drive is not that big a deal in a 928. You get out feeling just fine. I can't say that about my Maxima or Pontiac. The sound system isn't much to speak of other than the Alpine deck which works fine and looks OK. The speakers are factory. The back deck carpeting is in great shape as are the stretch cargo net and detachable cargo cover. The only thing left in the tool kit is the tow hook and anti-theft wheel lug socket. The lug wrench, jack and inflatable spare are there but I've never used them. The odometer is stuck at 199,699 but I'm not sure that makes sense due to the good condition of the car. The window tinting film on the passenger side door has started to get ripples in it. The rest of the windows are fine. I actually like the tinting for the protection of the leather so if I were to keep this car any longer I would peel it off and replace it. Please contact me if you have questions about this 928. If you are new to 928s I have a bunch of resources (service manuals on CD, parts sources, etc.) to help.
